John Smithhisler was placed as the senior vice president for hospital and ambulatory services at AMITA Health. The AMITA Health system was formed in February of 2015 as a joint operating company between Alexian Brothers Health System and Adventist Midwest Health in suburban Chicago. With approximately $2 billion in revenue and 13,000 employees, AMITA includes five ABHS hospitals and four AMH hospitals, creating an integrated healthcare system that serves a combined population of more than 3.8 million. The affiliation also resulted in a notably diverse physician provider network of more than 3,000 physicians. John brings to the position extensive knowledge in operations and the creation of service lines, along with strong strategy skills and relationship-building ability.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Before joining AMITA, John served as the central and eastern market leader for KentuckyOne Health and the president of the 433-bed Saint Joseph Hospital in Lexington. KentuckyOne Health was formed by the merger of the former Jewish Hospital & St. Mary’s HealthCare and Saint Joseph Health System, along with the University of Louisville Hospital and James Graham Brown Cancer Center. As the largest and most comprehensive health system in the Commonwealth, KentuckyOne has more than 200 locations, including hospitals, physician groups, clinics, primary care centers, specialty institutes, and home health agencies. As a market leader, John was accountable for six acute care hospitals and two LTACHs, which encompassed a total of 865 licensed beds, with total acute care net revenue of $636 million and approximately 1,200 medical staff members. He oversaw, organized, and integrated the organizations in his regions, balancing this role with his operational responsibility for Saint Joseph Hospital.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Previously, John held the chief executive role at Saint Vincent Hospital in Worcester, Massachusetts; Centinela Hospital Medical Center in Inglewood, California; East Houston Medical Center in Houston, Texas; and Medical Center of Southwest Louisiana in Lafayette. He also spent six years as the chief executive officer of JESS Health Care Consulting. John began his career in healthcare administration as an assistant administrator with HCA in Houston.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
John is originally from the Washington, DC area.
